The primary purpose of a working group is to create spaces for people to advance learning processes, and develop capacities, that will enable them to contribute more effectively and coherently to the professional and academic discourses in their respective fields. Most working groups arrange to meet at the annual conference and some organize weekend seminars. There are presently working groups related to the following fields and professions: Health, Economics, Education, Law, Indigenous Studies, Religion and Society, Media, and Technology and Society.
